International E-Waste Day is an annual awareness campaign that is initiated by the WEEE Forum and its members, which takes place each year on the 14th October. It aims to highlight the growing issue of electronic waste and promote responsible e-waste management.
This year’s slogan is “You can recycle anything with a plug, battery or cable!” which aims to highlight the issue of invisible e-waste – the electronic items that often go unrecognised and are not properly recycled within the appropriate waste stream.
On this year’s International E-Waste Day on Saturday 14th October 2023, there will be a range of e-waste collection points across the KwaDukuza area that will be operated by e-waste associations and recyclers. Residents are encouraged to take part in this campaign and assist us to make a substantial impact in diverting e-waste from landfill. To take part, gather your old electronic devices such as laptops, tablets, chargers, cables, headphones, kettles, and other small household appliances and devices. Then bring these along to the various collection events taking place between 9am – 4:30pm on Saturday 14th October:
- Hosted by Producer Responsibility Organisations (PROs) Circular Energy, there will be collection points at two retail centres in Ballito (Ballito Lifestyle Centre and Ballito Junction Mall) and two centres in Salt Rock (Tiffany’s Centre and New Salt Rock City Centre). At these events, you could stand a chance to win a R1000 voucher for donating your e-waste.
- Residents within the broader Stanger area can bring their unwanted electronic devices to the KwaDukuza Mall, where Indalo Electronic Recyclers will be accepting donations. Residents in and around the Shakaskraal area can donate their e-waste at Mdlume Recycling Management.
